If the University of the Sunshine Coast has sailing program, it would make the decision of Sarah Johnson, the young sailor to stay in the region easier.


The day of decision for Sarah, the 17-year-old sailor is just around the corner, with her first pick to remain on the Coast to study nutrition and sports science, and her second pick, University of Queensland where sailing program is there.

This is the Sarah’s passion for sailing since her school days.

She started sailing at the age of 14. At this age, she joined an experience sailing program, which was run by her school at the Maroochy Sailing Club, Chancellor State College.

From there, Sarah she joined the MSC, sailing entirely for fun and going out on the Pacers of the club.

Sarah said, “For the first three months, I sailed a club optimist and after that, I joined in the basic race training during mornings”.Continue reading

The Chennai upcoming regatta has gained with the sailing headlines because of Telangana.


According to reports, Telangana is sending 26 sailors to participate in the India International Regatta in Chennai. The regatta will start on 15 December and will go till 20 December. By sending this number of participants in championship Telangana has taken the share of 50 percent of Indian fleet.

Including Malaysia and Singapore total 12 countries will take part in this event. The regatta is also the Youth Nationals under the Federation. Thus, each sailor participating here will get one chance to win one regatta which is rolled of two championships.

In the championship; Rishab Nayar of Telangana who is also a national champion will lead the event. Nayar will join championship coming from Chicago as he has been migrated there Nayar is just 14 years old, but he has managed to get the weight of 65 kg to sail bigger Radial rig in the senior category. We have a new Mount Gay Rum around Jamestown Record. Who set this record? It’s none other than Zach Marks from Florida, who managed this excellent feat. He rode his foiling Kiteboard for 53 minutes and 37 seconds (elapsed time). The previous record was for 56 minutes and 33 seconds. Or in other words, the new record beats the previous record by 2 minutes and 56 seconds.

Marks started his journey at 12 EDT. He chose the path around the island to port. He went in the north direction. As for the breeze, he had to deal with 20-25 knot breeze.Continue reading

With the Rio games that began with sailing races, many teams displayed amazing endurance and skill while experienced teams and participants lagged behind, especially in the first two days of the races. For instance, team US displayed speed even in complex weather. It is said that the teams were spruced up this time as the last time they were unable to bag a single medal in the 2012 London Olympics.

On the third day of the races there were light winds in the afternoon, which gave way to rain later on. As the Nacra 17 and 470 races were on there were shiftier and heavy breezes experienced. There are several accolade winning sailors on these teams such as Andrew Campbell, who has won Youth Worlds to College Sailor as well as gone on to the Olympic Games. The United States Sailing Youth Worlds Team finished a successful meet in Langkawi, Malaysia, where US sailors snatched a win in the boy’s International 420 class and ended in the Top-10 in 4 other classes.

Bram Brakman and Will Logue earned the 1st American gold medal at the world’s top youth regatta since the year 2007, though the America has won 7 silver medals as well as 4 bronze medals in that time span.
US Olympic Sailing’s Managing Director Josh Adams stated that the United States Sailing Youth Worlds Team put on a tough showing for USA youth sailing at ISAF Youth Worlds that took place in Langkawi. Bram and Will sailed a commanding gold-medal job in the 420, and the whole squad contributed to its fifth spot standing in Nations Trophy meet.
420 helmsman Logue was still absorbing the victory after a few hours after coming back on United States. Standing on the podium was quite surreal, and magnificent. Still, there is no damage estimate or any cause determined in Annapolis Yacht Club’s fire incident on Saturday, said the city officials on Monday. The crew is still cleaning the site and the fire investigators combing through the debris.

The yacht club is looking for a way to rebuild. It was Saturday when blaze tore through the building, charring the 2nd and 3rd floors. The officials of the club told that they are thinking of possible temporary locations for the next 15 to 24 months before they come back here.
